Closed: 2000.

This building has so much history. I’m not even going to take my time to sit and explain it all. This building has been through hell and back. It’s still standing in Germany and no plans to demolish have been made.

City Methodist Church.

Built: 1925.

Closed: 1980.

This Church is still standing in Gary, IN, but had fire damage. It’s been abandoned for 31 years.

Facts: During the 1920’s, Pastor William Seaman rallied against the power of the Ku Klux Klan in Indiana, and welcomed black worshipers into City Methodist during a time when African Americans were not permitted in ‘white churches.’

In 2009, parts of the remake of the movie A nightmare on Elm Street were filmed at the church.

The mansion and 500 acres had many owners, but they all went bankrupt.

In 1934, the area was possessed by the Nazi Wehrmacht and used as a firing range and ammunition dump. In 1945, the Soviet army took control, and was home to the group of Soviet Forces in Germany tank division. The Soviets added a few buildings, including a cinema, two barracks, a boiler house, sauna, and grocery store that supported the 5,000 people living at the site. After the dispersal of the Russian army, the buildings on the 500 acre estate fell into ruin.

Plans were made to start inspection in 2011 and possibly turn Gentzrode into a resort.
